AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

This unit explores debates within contemporary Anglo-American political philosophy, with a particular focus on the topic of distributive justice. It aims at giving an overview of the structure of distributive dilemmas and the shape of distributive justice issues, as well as at providing a critical assessment of the main principles defended in the debate. In particular, classes will be devoted to public goods theories, egalitarianism, maximization (utilitarianism), prioritarianism, and sufficientarianism. The final class will deal with intergenerational distributive justice. Classes will aim at fostering discussion of the texts proposed, after a quick presentation of them.
