Michele Costabile is professor of Management, Entrepreneruship and Marketing at the LUISS “Guido Carli” University in Rome, where is also Director of the MSc. in Marketing and Executive Director of X.ITE, a LUISS Research Center on Marketing and Technology. Within the MBA Program he designed and launched the “MBA AdVenture program”, currently deployed across all the LUISS Business School Master programs under is supervision.

Formerly he taught for more than 20 years both at the University of Calabria (Arcavacata – Cosenza, Italy), as assistant, associate and full professor, and at SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan, as adjunct professor.

Michele Costabile has an extensive teaching and research experience in Italy and abroad, both on graduate and on executive education programs. He has been a visiting scholar at Northwestern University – Kellogg Graduate School of Management – and research assistant at Harvard University – Graduate School of Business Administration.

He actively participates in the most prestigious academic conferences throughout the world. His research interests are Strategic Marketing and Customer Management. He is author and co-author of many books and papers published in Italy and abroad on (among others) Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Business research, Journal of Service Research, Journal of Interactive Marketing. He served on the board of the European Marketing Academy as the Italian Nation Coordinator (2000-2004) and is currently a member of the most important national and international academic associations.

Michele Costabile has been Deputy Rector of communication and student counseling and placement office at the University of Calabria (1997-2007), where also directed the PhD program in Management (2004-2007). He supervised the Summer School Program on Research Methodology in Management and Social Sciences (2006-2012) offered by SDIPA (the University of Calabria’s School of Management) at Arcavacata Campus (Cosenza – Italy). He served as Chair of the Council of the University of Calabria Centre for Visual and Performing Arts for 5 years.

Michele Costabile has been advisor for many mid-sized Italian companies and big global corporations. For many of them he also delivered expert opinions and evaluations on intangible assets, advising national and international legal firms within antitrust procedures and litigations.

He has also served as Director or Chairman of the Board in several high-tech companies, and as CEO and Board Chairman at Principia SGR (2010-2014) the leading venture capital company in Italy until he left the company (2015). Under his supervision the Principia management team realized over 30 investments and 2 of the most important italian exit (EOS sold to Clovis Oncology – nov.2013; Banzai IPO – feb.2015) plus 3 early stage investment on some of the highest growing italian start-ups (Shopfully, Moneyfarm and Docebo). He co-founded and chaired Techgarage Association, committed to foster start-up entrepreneurship and to organize business plan contests in Italy (

He has been also an active member of AIFI (Associazione Italiana del Private Equity e Venture Capital –; member of the Scientific Commitee of Venture Capital Monitor (VEM), the Italian outlook on start-ups and venture capital; member of the CNR (National Research Council) Spin Off Committee; and member of the Vigilance Committee on the communication and marketing practices at Netcomm, the biggest italian association of the e-commerce companies ( As independent director at L.COM, he co-designed and co-launched the first Italian university alumni investment club (LUISS Alumni for Growth – LA4G).

He is advising (since 2016) the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism (MIBACT) in order to manage the turnaround of some of the most prestigious and historical Italian Opera House.

He is currently Member of the Board of Directors at LUISS “Guido Carli” University.
